Dr Mendis was appointed as a Consultant in Pain Medicine and Anaesthesia at the Mid Essex NHS Trust in 2005. Currently he is the Lead consultant in Pain Medicine at the Broomfield Pain Clinic.
He trained at Barts and the London School of Anaesthesia from 2000 to 2005 and was awarded the CCST (Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training) in 2005. He became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Ireland FFCARCS in 2001 and a Fellow of the Royal College of Anaesthetists FRCA in 2001. He became a Fellow of the Faculty of Pain Medicine, Royal College of Anaesthetists FFPMRCA in 2007. In 2009 He became a founder member of the London Pain Forum. Dr Mendis qualified from the Vinnitsa Medical Academy, Ukraine in 1990. In 2012 he became an assessor of the Royal College of Anaesthetists and in 2013, a member of the Training and Assessment Committee of the Faculty of Pain Medicine, Royal College of Anaesthetists. He lectures widely both internationally and nationally on a wide range of pain related topics.
